Abbiamo prenotato un tour privato con partenza da Ipoh per le Cameron Highlands. Partenza molto presto (6:30) per alle piantagioni di the in tempo per l’apertura. Piantagioni obiettivamente molto belle anche se estremamente turistiche. Purtroppo ci sono anche tante “side attraction” di dubbio gusto, tra cui questo fantomatico “Butterfly Garden” in cui c’erano farfalle quasi morte e tanti animali in gabbia visibilmente tristi (non abbiamo capito se la guida conoscesse lo stato di questo posto perché non è entrata con noi nelle varie attrazioni). Nota di merito per la visita alla vecchia piantagione BOH, estremamente meno frequentata e molto più piacevole da visitare. Nel complesso per un tour che è durato quasi dieci ore (4 ore di auto in tutto) con auto privata e guida alla nostra completa disposizione, 40 € a persona sono più che giusti.

Une longue discussion a eu lieu sur la nécessité de payer 100 % avant le transfert (c’était notre 4ᵉ transfert longue distance et la première fois qu’on me demandait un paiement intégral à l’avance). Après plusieurs erreurs avec leurs formulaires de paiement en ligne (ce qui m’a fait douter de leur légitimité), la personne de contact a finalement accepté, 24 h avant le départ, que je paie en espèces lors de la prise en charge.

Mais tard dans la soirée, à la veille du départ, on m’annonce que la réservation est annulée, soi-disant à cause d’un problème de voiture. Résultat : le matin de notre départ, ma famille et moi nous sommes retrouvés sans transfert… direction la gare routière.

Expérience à éviter : ne leur faites pas confiance.

Siamo state accompagnate tutto il giorno dal sig. Wassu, un simpatico signore che durante il tragitto si è sempre reso premuroso nell’accompagnarci ovunque noi volessimo. Ci dava dritte sia sui luoghi da visitare, ci scortava fino all’entrata e talvolta anche all’interno dei luoghi di interessi per lasciarci sempre in altre ottime mani. Ha aspettato ogni nostra tappa sempre con il sorriso. Consiglio vivamente questo tour, seri ed affidabili!

Highly recommend booking a tour with Ipoh Secrets!

John is a great guide with lots of stories and interesting facts. He is very flexible as well, which was great because I was struggling with health issues during the first part of our tour... He dropped us back off at our hotel, and offered to stay on call so we could let him know in case I recovered for the afternoon. I am very glad I did, because John picked us up again to do some highlights of the itinerary. I appreciated how he took us to a stall with some traditional dessert (while keeping an eye on dietary requirements) and took us for some local food shopping as well.

Thank you for giving us such an enjoyable day in Ipoh, John! 🙂

My group consists of 2 adults and 3 seniors. John is both our tour guide and driver for the day. Our first time to Ipoh. Very informative journey.. We definitely got to know Ipoh better through John. The itinerary was good, covers many main Ipoh attractions. Pace was just nice, non stressful neither was it too rush. If you are a first timer visiting Ipoh, would recommend that you engage Ipoh Secrets!

Good tour, at their recommendation, we deleted the old town section (as we were staying in that part of town) and added the spectacular Gua Tempurang caves and the Kinta Tin Mining Museum. The famous cave temples were of course a key part of the tour.

We weren't that excited about visiting the mining museum but as it happened it was actually very useful to understand the history of the area and more broadly the influx of Chinese miners in the 19th century that became a crucial part of the development of Peranakan identity and Nyonya food.

Our tour guide, John, was very informative on a wide range of topics including the anti-British national liberation war (or communist insurgency depending on your perspective...) and the 'new villages' outside Ipoh (450 villages were created in Malaysia to reduce support for the guerillas - basically 'relatively benign' British internment camps).

We were very interested in this history - however, if we hadn't been, we have no doubt, John would be fully alive to this and changed the focus accordingly.

We also dropped into a local soy sauce factory that was interesting and the aromas spectacular.

All in all a great trip and one that added substantially to our experience of Ipoh and more broadly, Malaysia. Thanks John, Mazni and Cecelia (an intern who accompanied us on the day).

We enjoyed our tour enormously. Our guide John was really knowledgeable. He shared his favourite eating places and showed us parts of Ipoh we wouldn’t have discovered by ourselves. John tailored the tour so we could do some shopping and went well beyond what we expected. Thank you John!
